A Western Australian brown trout stream at Pemberton, with wild browns and stocked-origin rainbows, best in spring and through the winter run.
Lefroy Brook is described as Western Australia’s best brown trout fishery, and wild browns are the reason to make the trip to Pemberton.
Dams cut the top of the valley off from the stream, so the fishing that matters is the mid to lower brook, which flows on to the Warren River.
Make your first trip in September to November. Browns and rainbows both live here, the water is at its best, and ants and caddis are on the surface. Walk in on the tracks off Conte, Power and Glauders roads toward the Cascades. No water-specific rule was found, so check the current WA fishing guide for seasons and limits before you go.
Try a winter trip from June to August, when migratory trout are through the system.
Skip the headwaters, and give February and March a miss in a dry year.
