This page exists to save you a drive. The Cotter’s headwaters, from the tussock marshes under the Brindabella Range down to Corin Dam, sit inside Canberra’s drinking-water catchment, and the territory prohibits fishing there at all times.

It is the source country of the river: creeks draining alpine marshland, fed by snow off the range, gathering into a stream that the first of three storages holds at Corin. The closure covers everything above Bendora Dam wall, so it takes in this stretch, Corin Dam, and the river between the two reservoirs.

The fishing on the Cotter starts at the Bendora Dam wall, twenty-odd kilometres downstream. That stretch has its own page. Do not come up here with a rod.
