A Queensland dam on Sandy Creek south-west of Mackay, stocked with barramundi and sooty grunter, with water-lily margins and catfish and spangled perch alongside.
Lake Kinchant is a stocked dam on Sandy Creek, about 30 km south-west of Mackay, and barramundi are the reason to drive there.
It is one body of water behind a single dam. At first sight it can look like a man-made billabong, with shallow margins thick with water-lilies.
Barramundi and sooty grunter are the stocked fish, and FlyLife’s writers report massive barramundi. Plan the trip around those two.
Before you go, check Sunwater’s site and the Queensland fishing rules.
