A medium-sized lake beside the Lyell Highway in Tasmania, written up by FlyLife for wild brown and rainbow trout, early wet-fly fishing and mayfly spinner falls.
Bronte Lagoon is a medium-sized lake beside the Lyell Highway, and FlyLife describes good numbers of wild brown and rainbow trout in it, with fly fishing through the season.
It sits lower than some other lakes, so FlyLife says the fishing starts a little earlier in the season. Early on, wet flies are described as strong around weed beds, rocky shores, points and fallen timber. Along the timbered shore, trout can be found feeding in the shallows where waves stir up the margin.
From October mayfly start hatching and trout eat them. Through the warmer months, watch the calmer edges for spinner feeders; a Mayfly Spinner (black and orange) and a Stick Caddis are the flies listed for both trout.
