Lake Maraboon is the water behind Fairbairn Dam on the Nogoa River, and barramundi and golden perch are the fish Queensland has stocked into it. It is the same water as Fairbairn Dam, found on Selma Road at Gindie, about 16 km south-west of Emerald. Sunwater owns the dam, so check its site for current facilities, fishing vessel requirements and dam alerts before you drive out. Start with the two stocked fish.

Fish and forage

Queensland stocking records list barramundi and golden perch for the dam. Atlas of Living Australia records also list small native fish in the lake, among them Agassiz’s glassfish, flathead gudgeon and flyspecked hardyhead.
